My cousin, Stephen Fine, and I spent grade one at Marist Inanda School. Stephen, together with his brother, Michael, went on to write matric at Marist Inanda.
Stephen and I were the only 2 Jews in the Grade One classes. For religious instruction, the pupils were asked to line up in two Groups: Catholics and Other. The Catholic line was by far the longest, so Stephen and I joined what seemed the most popular group. So we had Catholic teaching for that first year. Stephen and I had one ruler between us which we shared.
